Winter Break Celebration

Winter break is finally here which means it’s time for some Open Arts cheer! Treat yourself to a relaxing and fun break after working so hard all of fall.  This month is jam-packed full of celebration. Join the festivities in Philadelphia and magic of the holidays by attending exciting theater, dance, and musical performances!

To see some classic Christmas throwbacks, head to the Walnut Street Theatre. Students get day-of-show tickets at their Independence Studio for only $20. Plus, all Mainstage Productions are half price. Through December 20 you can see Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Watch the heartwarming tale of Ebenezer Scrooge where a grumpy old man learns the true meaning of Christmas by visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Another classic, A Christmas Story (The Musical), runs until January 10. Sit back and enjoy this holiday comedy about a little boy with a big imagination and an eye on the Red Ryder BB Gun. Both of these performances are touching, funny, and entertaining for all!

More theatrical performances await at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre of the Philadelphia Theatre Company. They are performing Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery until December 27. This joyful, mischievous, comedy thriller will have you hooked from the start. Solve the mystery of how to spend your break by planning to catch this show. You won’t know whether to laugh, smirk, or jump out of your seat. Student rush tickets are available from 2 to 1 hour before curtain or all day on Friday at the box office for only $10.

Another classic you won’t want to miss is George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. This iconic holiday performance runs the entire month of December at the Academy of Music by the Pennsylvania Ballet. You won’t want to miss this beloved holiday tradition of 46 years. The music and dancing will warm your heart in a performance you’ll always remember.
