Alla Abajo/ Down Below: A Reaction to Our Times by Ornella Ridone
See Event Description
"Allá Abajo/Down Below" is a visual response to Philadelphia by Italian born Mexican artist Ornella Ridone. She is the first recipient of the Julia Zagar Residency for Women Artists, a program that supports contemporary female artists working in the tradition of handcrafting and folk art, with a particular focus on Mexican and South American artisans. Ridone’s pieces, all sewn on discarded clothing, will feature stories from both Mexican and American residents, and will illustrate the complex, multilayered relationship between the two countries. A pay-what-you-wish opening reception will take place on Friday, May 4, from 6:00 - 9:00 PM.
