Barnes Jawn(t): Ariell R. Johnson
See Event Description
Join us for an evening tour full of make-believe as we play fast and loose with everything you thought you knew about the Barnes. In Philadelphia, jawn is catch-all word for anything. A Barnes Jawn(t) is an anything-goes tour of the collection with a fascinating Philly personality as your guide. These off-the-cuff, sure-to-run-off-the-rails tours are led by a diverse array of community leaders, artists, and comic-book nerds—all experts in their fields. A child of the ’80s, Ariell R. Johnson grew up on a diet of He-Man, She-Ra, Thundercats, and Transformers, which launched a lifelong love of superpowers, superheroes, and comics. She turned this passion into a career when she opened Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse, the only black-woman-owned comic-book store on the East Coast. Ariell uses her shop to showcase works created by and featuring people of color, different faiths, women, and the LGBTQ community. Ariell was nominated for 2016 “Geek of the Year” at the Philly Geek Awards.
