Behind-the-Scenes Lunch Series: Material Explorations

See Event Description
This program, led by FWM Master Printer Kate Abercrombie and Project Technician Joy Ude, will explore the fascinating history of Dutch wax fabrics often used in former Artist-in-Residence Yinka Shonibare’s work, as well as the techniques used to create this fabric. Samples of cloth will be available for handling, and a block printing station with motifs from popular culture will enable participants to create a small print on dyed fabric. The program will include a mixtape soundtrack used in his 2002 installation, Space Walk, referencing Shonibare’s musical inspirations specific to Philadelphia’s music history.
